After a one-day delay to stave off any concern about weather, the 30th Hoss Garrett Relays ran without problems this past Saturday with three different parish school competing and the host school, Ruston High, taking the top overall team win.

“This past Saturday we couldn’t have asked for better weather,” Ruston head coach Trey Smith said. “Our traditional visit to legendary Coach Garrett’s gravesite that morning really set the tone for the day and focused our team on the importance of encouraging each other and performing well for our community. The meet was a great indicator of that message as we had seasonal best and personal record performances from so many of our athletes.

“Across the board, I was encouraged by so many efforts, and as a coach I could tell we were having lots of fun while I worked the start/finish line. We have an amazing group of young athletes with many stellar senior leaders. I’m excited to see how we continue to grow as a team and the performances that will come in the following weeks.”

Ruston dominated in overall scoring with 169 total points for the girls, and 156 points total points for the boys. Simsboro made a respectable showing at third place in the girls division, while Cedar Creek came in overall in sixth in the girls.
