Sheriff’s program helps responders recognize special needs

The Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office is launching its newest initiative, “The Special Needs Program.”

Residents can get a sticker for up to three vehicles to help first responders better serve them. In the event of an accident or encounter, first responders can quickly identify there may be a person with autism, Down syndrome, dementia, deafness, PTSD, etc. in the vehicle or home and respond accordingly.

Sheriff Stephen Williams said, “The stickers will provide deputies with critical information if your loved one is in need but is unable to communicate effectively.”

Information such as home address and vehicle license plate number may be required so the Sheriff’s Office can add it to their dispatch system. This helps deputies and other responders on scene better approach, assist, and serve those individuals with special needs or health issues, according to the sheriff.

“This program is an effort to reassure our community that we are committed to serving all citizens of Lincoln Parish and our awareness of those individuals who are our most vulnerable,” Williams said.

This is a free service provided to the citizens of Lincoln Parish. To get your sticker, stop by the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office on Road Camp Road and complete the form. For questions, you may contact Sgt. Iris Winston at 318-251-6440 or iwinston@lpsheriff.org.
