Story of Lincoln Parish’s creation to be told

As part of its continuing Chautauqua Lecture Series, the Lincoln Parish Museum will be hosting historian Wesley Harris on June 15.

The Lincoln Parish Sesquicentennial-sanctioned event will discuss Allen Greene, considered the founder and father of Lincoln Parish and the turbulent times around its creation in 1873.

Greene is given credit for Lincoln Parish’s creation and the roots of the city of Grambling.

Harris said, “No story on Lincoln Parish’s creation 150 years ago would be complete without talking about Allen Greene. He wanted to be king of the parish he created. And he was for a time, controlling every political office in the parish.”

Harris has authored numerous books and has written professionally for nearly 40 years on topics of regional interest.

The Lincoln Parish Museum is located at 609 N. Vienna St. in Ruston. Doors of the museum will open at 6:00 p.m. and the presentation is set for 7:00 p.m. Admission for the event is free.
