A Baton Rouge man was arrested last week after Grambling Police spotted him with a bag of suspected marijuana in a convenience store parking lot.
On May 31, officers saw Rusty Alan Thomas, Jr., 21, sitting in a Buick in the Rogers Mini Mart parking lot. The car’s door was open, and the two officers saw a bag of suspected marijuana in plain view. As officers approached Thomas, he entered another car on the lot.
When asked for the bag he had in his hand, Thomas said, “I don’t know what you are talking about.” The bag was found under the passenger side front tire of the Nissan Altima Thomas had entered.
A search of both vehicles was conducted, and a loaded AK-47 rifle was found under a jacket on the back seat of the Buick. A records check indicated the rifle had been stolen in Zachary.
A rolled marijuana “blunt” was found on the passenger side floorboard of the Altima. Thomas claimed it was his and that after he ate, he was going to “get high.”
Thomas was booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, illegal possession of a firearm during a drug felony, illegal possession of a stolen firearm, and obstruction of justice. Bail was set at $37,000.
