Police arrested a Ruston man for DWI and traffic charges after investigating a hit and run on Independence Day.
Officers responded to Goodwin Road and Morrison Drive Tuesday night in response to a report of a hit and run. While the victim was detailing the incident, the suspect vehicle came by the location. Officers stopped it and identified the driver as Vincent C. Elmore, III, 27. Elmore denied being involved in the crash.

Officers found damage to Elmore’s vehicle consistent with the accident. The other driver identified him and the vehicle as the one that struck them.
A Louisiana state trooper was called to the scene. The trooper administered field sobriety tests and observed signs of impairment.
Elmore was arrested and taken to the Lincoln Parish Detention Center where he submitted to a breath test. The test showed Elmore’s blood alcohol content to be 0.22g%, nearly three times the Louisiana legal limit.
Elmore was booked for DWI, hit and run driving, expired inspection sticker, and switched license plate. Bail was set at $1,500.
