Back to School event offers vaccinations

In recognition of August as National Immunization Month, the Region 8 Office of Public Health will host an End of Summer Bash featuring routine back-to-school immunizations.

The event will take place Saturday, Aug. 5 at the Ouachita Parish Health Unit, 1650 DeSiard St., Monroe from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

OPH will offer routine back-to-school vaccinations, COVID-19 and mpox vaccinations and others. The Ouachita Parish Clerk of Court’s Office will also offer free same-day prints of birth certificates.

The purpose of the End of Summer Bash is to help parents and their kids be better prepared for school.

“While preparing for the new school year, it’s also important to make sure your children are protected against vaccine-preventable diseases. We are reminding all parents to check with your pediatrician to make sure your kids are up to date on their vaccinations before the first day of school,” said Region 8 Medical Director Dr. Tonya Hunter.

OPH also invites everyone to pre-register for the event here or by visiting their LDH Facebook page to see the Facebook event.
