It took Ruston’s City Council all of two minutes to complete a special-called meeting Thursday evening at City Hall.

The meeting was called with only one item on the agenda – introducing an ordinance to adopt the Budget of Revenue and Expenditures for the city’s fiscal year beginning Oct. 1 and ending on Sept. 30, 2024.

Ruston’s City Council will then vote on the proposed budget during its next scheduled monthly meeting set for Sept. 11.

The proposed budget includes projected increases in both revenue brought in and expected spending by the city.

Part of the spending in the proposed budget includes Phase I construction of the Buc-ee’s service road project west of the Tarbutton Road overpass over Interstate 20, construction of a new fire state on West California Avenue, work slated for part of the East Kentucky Avenue extension project and other overlay projects.

Portions of that $61 million in capital spending will be derived from state and federal funding combined with projected increased revenue the city expects to receive.
