Suspect swallows evidence

A Ruston man allegedly swallowed potential evidence after he was stopped by police early Saturday morning.

Timothy L. Gray, 31, was stopped about 5:30 a.m. because he matched the description of car burglaries reported in the area.

Gray told the investigating officer he had a large knife in his pocket. The officer retrieved the knife while Gray had his hands on the patrol car hood. When the officer went to place the knife in the patrol car, Gray allegedly took a small package of a white substance from his pocket, placed it in his mouth, and swallowed it.

Gray was taken to the North Louisiana Medical Center where vomiting was induced to retrieve the package. Gray refused to identify the substance.

The package will be analyzed at the North Louisiana Crime Lab to determine the substance and possible additional charges.

Gray was booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center for obstruction of justice and resisting an officer.

Bail was set at $2,500.
