ICYMI: Report surfaces about Jim Henderson, LA Tech President opening

Gannett writer Greg Hilburn reported tonight that unnamed sources say current University of Louisiana System President Jim Henderson is expected to be named the next Louisiana Tech President tomorrow.

Hilburn’s story said that Monday’s 11 a.m. meeting of the University of Louisiana System has been called for this purpose.

However, the process is complicated due to Henderson’s current role within the UL System.

Rumors have circulated the past few weeks about who will follow in the footsteps of Louisiana Tech President Dr. Les Guice, following his retirement announcement on September 12.

Guice, who will step down on Dec. 31 after serving in the role for the past 12 and a half years, is just the third Tech president in the last 60 years, following long tenures by Dr. F. Jay Taylor and Dr. Dan Reneau.

Henderson’s name has been one that has been floating around for the past month as a possible successor.

The UL System posted Friday that a board meeting would take place today at 11 a.m. in Baton Rouge with the agenda including:

  • Discussion and deliberation regarding Louisiana Tech University President transition, and related action

However, it will take a majority vote from the 16 members of the UL System Board for Henderson, who any candidate, to be approved.

Making matters even more challenging for Henderson are state laws and board rules that could prevent or delay Henderson from being named Louisiana Tech President.

The public portion of the meeting can be watched at https://www.youtube.com/@ULSystem/streams.
