Competitors from Ruston High, Cedar Creek and Choudrant High all represented their schools and their parish during the Louisiana High School Athletic Association State Swim Meet this past week in Sulphur.
Cedar Creek and Choudrant’s swimmers competed in Division IV while Ruston High’s competed in Division II.
Cedar Creek’s Camdyn Napper and Ruston High’s Sadie Huenefeld both won state titles while the duo joined Karalin Hoover (Ruston), Robert Campbell (Ruston), Christopher Frick (Ruston), Samuel Jackson (Ruston), McKenzie Jones (Cedar Creek) and Jack Groce (Choudrant) as all-state performers.

Napper won the state title in the 200m individual medley while Huenefeld won her state title in the 50m freestyle.
“This was a great opportunity for our athletes to compete against other great athletes while representing their schools,” said Rocky Smith, the coach of the Bulldog Aquatics Club. “I know that our athletes take pride in their accomplishments given the fact that school pride is on the line. It makes for a really exciting four days of swimming. The atmosphere was electric.”
Hoover earned all-state honors in the 200m individual medley and the 100m breaststroke while Huenefeld won all-state accolades in the 50m freestyle and the 100m freestyle. Campbell’s all-state honors came in the 200m individual medley and the 100m butterfly while Frick’s came in the 200m freestyle and the 100m butterfly.
Jackson earned all-state in the 100m freestyle and Jones in the 200m freestyle and the 500m freestyle. Napper was all-state in both the 200m individual medley and the 100m breastroke. Groce was all-state in the 200m individual medley.
The Cedar Creek girls team finished fifth while the boys team finished 15th. The Choudrant boys finished 16th in the team competition. The Ruston High girls finished fifth while the boys finished third.
“I was so excited for all of them,” said Smith. “The Cedar Creek Girls Relay placing in the top 3 was a great moment and great finish for us to that meet. They came together and finished in the top 5 as a team which was their highest women’s team finish ever.
“There were so many great races our athletes were a part of that it is tough to keep track. The 100 butterfly with Robert (Campbell) and Owen was super competitive and probably one of the more competitive races time wise of the Division. Sadie just missed a state record in the 50 Freestyle. Karalin coming back from hand injury to finish top three show tremendous heart. They all did really well.”
