It took Cedar Creek three quarters to warm up offensively, but once the Lady Cougars did, they ran away with a 57-31 road victory over Glenbrook Tuesday night.
Head coach Katie Hall’s team led just 31-27 entering the fourth quarter, but erupted for 26 points over the final eight minutes to coast to the win.
“We started out slow and sluggish,” said Hall. “We missed a lot of layups early on and had a hard time scoring. I was proud of our defensive effort that wore them down.”
Mallory Smith scored 13 points and freshman Alivia Lee added 11 points to lead the Lady Cougars in the win. Hall note her freshman’s effort in the fourth quarter when she scored seven of her points.
“Alivia Lee came off the bench and had a big fourth quarter for us defensively,” said Hall. “She also hit a couple of threes to ignite our run.”
In addition to Lee’s effort over the final quarter, Smith and Elli Dickerson each added five points and Leah Sutherland scored four points as the Lady Cougars outscored Glenbrook 26-4.
Dickerson ended the night with nine points while Sutherland added seven points.
Creek trailed 9-8 after the first quarter before taking a 22-17 advantage into the halftime locker room.
The Lady Cougars open play in the Neill Kilgore Memorial Tournament Thursday when they host Saline at 5:45 p.m. at the Brickhouse.

Jake Doan scored 31 points and Connor Johnson added 12 points to lead the Cougars to a lopsided 66-20 win over Glenbrook Tuesday night.
Doan scored 15 points in the opening quarter to as the Cougars built a 17-4 advantage. Doan then netted 10 more in the second stanza as Cedar Creek took a 37-10 lead into the halftime lockerroom.
Johnson scored 10 of his 12 points in the third quarter as the Cougar outscored the Apaches 23-9 in building a 60-19 lead.
Jack Bell added seven points in the win for Creek.
The Cougars host Summerfield Thursday at 7 p.m. in the first round of the 2023 Neill Kilgore Memorial Tournament at the Brickhouse.
