During the month of December, Ruston Parks and Recreation will offer free outdoor ice skating at Ruston Sports Complex.
Amanda Lonadier, RPAR recreation supervisor, spoke about how the idea began.

“We all started talking about fun things to do around the holidays,” said Lonadier. “It all started to come together after that.”
The “ice” is artificial and made out of a water-based chemical to recreate the feeling of skating on real ice.
New ice skates were ordered and are loaned out to anyone who wishes to skate.
Last year, the complex had over 700 individuals skate and hope to offer it next year as well.
“My No. 1 goal is to give back to the families and kids of Lincoln Parish,” said Lonadier. “This is our second year doing it (at the Sports Complex), and we plan on doing it every year.”
Ice skating is open from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday of December, and on the week of Christmas, it will be open Wednesday and Thursday at the same times. Additionally, Saturday, Dec. 16, the complex will be open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for skating pictures and hot cocoa with Santa as part of RPAR’s Winter Wonderland festivities. Winter Wonderland will also included the Ruston Rudolph Run 5K at 8:30 a.m.
