It’s been 215 years since Abraham Lincoln was born in a modest Kentucky cabin on February 12, 1809, but his birthday will be celebrated Sunday at the Lincoln Parish Museum.
The Second Annual Lincoln’s Birthday Brunch is a family-friendly event with hot dogs, hamburgers, and fun scheduled for noon to 2:12 p.m. at the museum at 609 North Vienna Street in Ruston.
Museum Rick Godley came up with the idea last year. Set for a noon start on Sunday, the come-and-go, family-friendly event will run until 2:12 p.m. in honor of Lincoln’s official birthday on Feb. 12. Plans include a variety of activities for those who attend.
Godley said the event will not only recognize the man Lincoln Parish is named for but will attract more families to the museum. “History can be fun,” Godley said, “and we will have events the entire family can participate in.” He named a Stove Pipe Hat and costume contest, for example.
Anyone who can recite the Gettysburg Address will earn a $5 bill bearing Lincoln’s image.
Godley said partiers can tour the museum, eat a burger and some birthday cake, and learn a little history.
A reading of Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation will take place at 2 p.m.
