A pair of former Louisiana Tech women’s basketball assistants have landed at new schools following the conclusion of the 2023-24 season.
Alaura Sharp, who as the head coached Presbyterian College to the program’s first ever NCAA Tournament appearance, was named the new head coach at Appalachian State last week.
The announcement of Sharp was made last Friday and she will be formally introduced in a press conference today at the school.
Sharp served as an assistant for Brooke Stoehr at Louisiana Tech from 2016 through 2018 before being named the head coach at Presbyterian College prior to the 2018-19 season. In two seasons as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Louisiana Tech, she helped the Lady Techsters make their first postseason appearance in six seasons with a WNIT berth in 2016-17, followed by a 19-win season in 2017-18 and a second consecutive WNIT appearance.
She spent six seasons in Clinton, South Carolina, where she led the Blue Hose to the 2024 NCAA Tournament and a win over Sacred Heart in the First Four. Presbyterian then lost to eventual national champion South Carolina in the round of 64.
Another former Louisiana Tech assistant was named the Associate Head Coach at Kentucky this week as Lindsey Hicks followed Kenny Brooks to Lexington.
Hicks, who served as the associate head coach under Brooks at Virginia Tech for the past four years, helped guide the Hokies to the NCAA Tournament in all four seasons in Blacksburg, including the program’s first Final Four appearance in 2023. She also raised the program’s first ACC Championship trophies, including one for the tournament title in 2023 and one for the regular-season title in 2024.
The former Purdue Boilermaker star served as an assistant coach for Brooke Stoehr at Tech from 2016 through 2020 where she helped the Lady Techsters to back-to-back winning seasons and postseason appearances in 2016-17 and 2017-18.
