Man arrested after allegedly assaulting friend, officers

A Ruston man was arrested Friday after he allegedly started a fight at a Ruston convenience store.

Police responded to the QuikTrip on the South Service Road about 1:45 a.m. last Friday morning. A man told officers he had taken a friend to the store in hopes to purchase something to make him feel better due to his intoxication level. While the man was inside the store, Steven Vidal left the vehicle and walked away. The man went after Vidal, who began striking the man in the face.

Officers saw the man’s face was bloody and Vidal was taken into custody. Vidal became combative and attempted to break away from the officers, kicking one officer in the knee. As he was placed in their patrol car, Vidal shouted profanities. He appeared extremely intoxicated, according to an officer’s report.

Vidal was taken to the Lincoln Parish Detention Center and booked for battery of a police officer, simple battery, disturbing the peace, by appearing intoxicated in public and the use of profane language, and resisting an officer.

Bail was set at $3,500.
