A Texas woman was arrested by the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office last Thursday night during a traffic stop in which she lied about her name.
A deputy stopped a pickup truck on Martin Luther King Avenue for an equipment violation about 9 p.m. Thursday night. The woman said her name was Vanessa Smith. However, the deputy was unable to verify that name with the date of birth given. Another deputy arrived to assist and recognized the woman as someone he interacted with early in the night who had identified herself as Jessica Smith with a different date of birth. The woman then said she had lied about her name previously and her correct name was Vanessa Smith.

She also stated she had a partially smoked marijuana cigarette inside the vehicle. A search of the vehicle yielded a marijuana cigarette, a grinder with suspected marijuana residue, and a Texas identification card for Vanessa Michelle Burt. A records check showed Burt was wanted on out-of-state warrants for burglary of a state/federal building and theft of a firearm.
Burt was arrested and taken to the Lincoln Parish Detention Center where she was booked for resisting an officer by false information, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and the two warrants.
Bail on the local charges was set at $3,000. Burt is being held pending extradition to another state.
