Driver in crash arrested with drugs

A Ruston man was arrested by Lincoln Parish deputies last Friday evening after he was involved in a crash on Louisiana Hwy. 33.

Deputies responded to the accident at the intersection of Louisiana 33 and Louisiana 3072 about 6 p.m. Friday. One of the drivers, Christopher O. Coleman, 32, said he fell asleep and that was what had caused the crash. Coleman said he did not have a driver’s license.

Just before the crash, the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office received a call of a reckless driver southbound on LA 33. A witness at the scene said Coleman’s southbound vehicle struck multiple mailboxes before the crash.

Coleman requested to be taken to the emergency room. While walking to the ambulance, Coleman placed his hand into his pants pocket to retrieve his cell phone. As he removed his hand from the pocket, plastic baggies containing suspected MDMA (ecstasy) fell out.

A search of his backpack found bag of suspected marijuana.

After his release from the emergency room, Coleman was taken to the Lincoln Parish Detention Center, where he was booked for possession of marijuana, possession of MDMA, careless operation of a vehicle, and no driver’s license.
