Letter to the Editor: Another citizen talks upcoming bond vote

To the Editor,

As a Ruston native and resident heavily involved in our community and school system, I’ve seen the impact of proposed changes, like the upcoming bond issue, on our community. With experience as a former student-athlete, parent, substitute teacher, and coach, I understand the importance of the proposal to move Ruston forward.

While I understand the concerns voiced in those informative meetings, it’s important to realize that progress requires change. Expressing reservations without offering solutions hinders our collective advancement. The School Board is doing its job by recommending improvements so our schools remain A-rated and our sports facilities and teams remain competitive. The bond proposal addresses vital issues, serving as a proactive step toward improving safety and enhancing our sports programs.

School safety should be at the top of all parent’s minds, and in today’s environment, ensuring school security is crucial. The proposed security upgrades are a proactive measure against the increasing threats schools face. Similarly, investing in our sports facilities is an investment in our students’ overall development. From personal experience, sports and extracurricular activities are an important part of the overall school experience. They play a crucial role in instilling discipline, promoting teamwork, and fostering community pride.

I urge everyone to join me in supporting our students and schools by voting “yes” on the bond proposal on April 27th. Let’s keep yelling #BigRuston, AND support its growth. Let’s champion progress and empower Ruston’s future together.

Sincerely,

LaDarius Mamon
