Louisiana Tech’s Katelin Cooper and Nicole Hammoude were named to the Conference USA All-Academic Team, the league office announced on Friday.
Cooper and Hammoude are two of only 11 league players selected for the prestigious team that is voted on by the academic advisors from each member institution within Conference USA. They became the third and fourth LA Tech softball players to earn the award, joining Lindsay Edwards (2022) and Morgan Turkoly (2019) as the only players to achieve the honor.
Cooper, a native of Choudrant, La., boasts a 3.87 grade point average while pursuing her doctorate in counseling psychology. The sixth-year senior has already obtained degrees in biology and psychology with a master’s in guidance and counseling. She is a two-time CUSA Commissioners Honor Roll selection (2023, 2022) and two-time Easton/NFCA Scholar Athlete (2022, 2023). In 2023, Cooper was honored by Conference USA as one of 11 recipients of the prestigious Jim Castañeda Postgraduate Scholarship.
On the field, Cooper leads Tech with 32 walks this season in addition to two home runs, 11 RBI, five doubles, and 21 runs scored. In 2023, she drove in a career-high 42 RBI, which ranked seventh in program history.
Hammoude transferred to Tech in the fall of 2023 after spending the first three years of her collegiate career at Cal. The redshirt-junior has a 4.0 GPA while obtaining her master’s in business administration. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture at Cal and earned PAC-12 Academic Honor Roll Distinction in 2021.
A native of Oakland, Calif., Hammoude is batting .252 this season with 35 hits, 10 doubles, five home runs, 30 RBI, 24 runs scored, and 10 walks. Her 30 RBI rank seventh among all CUSA players. Defensively, her 104 assists lead CUSA.
