Grambling Police arrested a local man last Tuesday after he allegedly choked a woman during an altercation.

Police responded to a Ruston Avenue residence in Grambling about 12:30 p.m. on January 21 to find the front door standing open and the reported victim sitting on the couch with the suspect, Ashton Malone, 20, standing nearby.

The woman said she was attempting to leave when Malone walked outside behind her, punched her in the head, choked her, and then dragged her back across the street and spit on her as she attempted to use a neighbor’s cell phone.

The victim said Malone broke the screen on her laptop and explained they had been living together for approximately two years.

Malone was searched and a cigar filled with suspected marijuana was found in his pocket. He was booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center for domestic abuse battery with strangulation, simple criminal damage to property, and possession of marijuana.

Bail for the damage to property charge was set at $1,500 but bail for the domestic abuse charge was $30,000.
