Homer man arrested for attempted murder, aggravated arson

The State Fire Marshal’s Office has arrested a Homer man for allegedly setting fire to a mobile home with people inside, according to a press release from the agency Wednesday.

Joshua Winters, 35, was booked into the Claiborne Parish Detention Center on January 24 for two counts of attempted second degree murder and one count of aggravated arson.

Around 8:30 p.m. on January 8, the Homer Fire Department responded to a mobile home fire in the 300 block of Oil Mill Street in the southeast section of the city. A man and a woman were inside at the time but were able to escape unharmed.

The home was heavily damaged with the destruction of two vehicles in an attached garage.

Deputies determined the fire was intentionally set. Through extensive investigative efforts, Winters, a former friend of the victims, was identified as the suspect in the case.

Winters was taken into custody last Friday evening without incident.
