Ruston resident caught with stolen pistol

A 17-year-old Ruston resident was arrested Monday after a woman reported two men banging on her door with one armed with a handgun.

Ruston Police responded and found a man sitting in a chair on the woman’s front porch. When asked to show his hands, the suspect walked away despite numerous commands not to run away.


The suspect fled with officers giving chase. He was taken into custody and identified as Zyhiem McCallister, 17, of Ruston. A search of the path McCallister had taken revealed a Smith & Wesson 9 mm pistol, 7 g of marijuana, a red, vape, pen, cash, and a camouflage face mask. In a shed behind the house on Orioles Street.

McCallister admitted he had dropped some marijuana, a red vape pen, a face mask, and some cash. Those items were located next to the pistol which was determined to be stolen in Ruston.

McCallister was booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center for possession of a stolen firearm, minor in possession of a firearm, possession of marijuana, and resisting an officer.
