Ruston Junior High FBLA

The Lincoln Parish Journal is providing our local schools with an opportunity to submit nuggets from what’s going on at their respective schools in order to get more information out on their students, faculty and staff. The information below comes directly from those schools. Any school wishing to provide content each week can email at hannalsingh@gmail.com

Middle Schools

A.E. Phillips Middle

We held our first All Pro Dad chapter meeting on the last Thursday of January.  All Pro Dad Chapters provide an opportunity for dads to spend quality time with their children before school, helping to strengthen their relationships. Once a month, dads and their kids gather to enjoy breakfast and engage in meaningful discussions on character-based topics.  These conversations are designed to encourage communication and growth at an age-appropriate level. The program’s mission is to help dads lead their families well.  At A.E. Phillips, these sessions are facilitated by Tobin Pritchard and John Robert Smith, both AEP dads.  We had a tremendous response to this event with over 100 guests in attendance. Our next meeting will be February 27th.

The Bullpup Broadcast elective class had the pleasure visiting the new Broadcasting Division for Louisiana Tech Athletics last week. Students met with Kyle Kavanaugh, Senior Associate A.D., who shared a little about what the broadcasting team does day to day. He introduced students to Carson Fryou and Jack Stribnry who are responsible for making the magic happen! Students learned all about the “behind the scenes” operations that make the games more entertaining because of the cool video footage, graphics, and replays these guys and their team produce for LaTech athletics. We are grateful to them for sharing their expertise with our students and taking time out of their busy schedules to show us all things broadcasting!

We wanted to say “thank you” to Lieutenant Henderson from the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s office (and AEP dad) for speaking to our seventh and eighth graders recently.  Lieutenant Henderson spoke to our students about the dangers that can be associated with social media, text messaging, gaming, etc.  We are grateful for the work he does to keep our community safe, and we are thankful for speak to our students about these important topics.

Ruston Junior High School

Thursday, 40 of our 8th graders got to take a tour of Louisiana Delta Community College. We enjoyed getting to see the classrooms and ask questions about what they have to offer! We had a great time and hopefully, our students got the most out of the experience.

On Thursday, January 30th members of the Ruston Junior High School chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America spent the day on campus at Grambling State University for the annual Regional Leadership Conference.  This event centers around competitions based on business concepts that the students learn about throughout the year.  The members can do combinations of both objective testing and live judging events.  They also attended workshops put on by the Louisiana FBLA state officers and attended an awards ceremony to recognize outstanding achievements.

The RJHS Bearkits had numerous members placing and qualifying for the State Leadership Conference to be held in Lafayette in March.  The results were as follows:
