Ruston Police arrest man with machine gun

A traffic stop for running a red light led to the arrest of a Grambling man for possession of a machine gun in Ruston.

Kemillion Payne, 19, was arrested by Ruston Police last Sunday after the juvenile driver of the car in which Payne was a passenger ran the red traffic signal at West Alabama Avenue and North Trenton Street.

A RPD officer followed the car with his emergency lights on until it stopped at Marbury Alumni Center at Louisiana Tech. Tech Police who were assisting found a pistol in plain view on the driver’s floorboard.

Officers continued searching and found a black Glock 30 .45 caliber pistol with an extended magazine behind the driver’s seat. The gun had a device attached that converted it from semiautomatic to a fully automatic machine gun.

During a frisk, Payne was found with a bag of marijuana.

Payne told police he was charged as a 15-year-old with several gun violations during a traffic stop. He was arrested for possession of a machine gun and booked into the Lincoln Parish Detention Center. His bail was set at $50,000.
