A Slidell man was arrested on the Grambling State University campus after he allegedly choked his girlfriend, a GSU student.
Tremon Joseph, 18, was arrested Wednesday by GSU Police after officers interviewed the victim.
The woman said she and Joseph were in her Bowen Hall dorm room when he suddenly grabbed her cell phone and ran out of the room. She chased him to retrieve the phone, but decided to go back to the room and wait for Joseph to return.
Joseph allegedly forcefully re-entered the room and grabbed her forcefully by the neck and choked her. The woman said he was choking her so hard that it became difficult to breathe. She told police she began to fight back but while doing so, he pushed her head against the wall and into a mirror, causing it to shatter.
Joseph was taken to GSU PD headquarters for questioning, but he invoked his Miranda rights and refused to answer questions. He was booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center for domestic abuse battery by strangulation and unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling.
