A man who appeared to be trying to steal a bicycle locked to a bike rack on the Louisiana Tech campus was arrested last week on several charges.
Nathaniel Isaac McDowell, 20, of Dubach, was arrested after Tech Police responded to a report of a man attempting to steal a bicycle near Memorial Gym.
McDowell was seen by police trying to manipulate the lock securing the bicycle to a bike rack. McDowell said his cousin had dropped out of school and told him he could have the bicycle. When asked why he didn’t use the lock combination, he said his cousin could not remember it.

McDowell was released when officers could not verify his story or locate the bike owner. However, moments later McDowell was seen picking up items in a construction area. He was stopped again and was found to have a knife, brass knuckles, and a hypodermic syringe that McDowell said was for methamphetamine.
McDowell was arrested and booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center for criminal mischief and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail was set at $1,000.
