Man arrested after assaulting woman, resisting officers

Ruston Police arrested a local man late last week during a disturbance call after he allegedly assaulted a woman and then resisted arrest.

At about 3 a.m., RPD officers responded to a Marshall Drive residence regarding a disturbance in progress. They found Kendrick Harris, 33, of Ruston, arguing with his neighbor. Both were told to stop arguing and return to their respective homes and eventually they complied.

Several minutes later, officers heard a woman screaming for help from Harris‘s residence. Officers entered the home and saw a woman standing in a corner with her 3-year-old child in her arms with what appeared to be a look of fear on her face.

Harris was instructed to go outside with his hands raised. Instead, he immediately attempted to retreat into a nearby bedroom. Officers grabbed Harris who did not comply with officers’ commands. After a struggle, Harris was controlled and handcuffed. As he was being escorted to a patrol car, he turned his body toward one of the officers and struck the officer with his right elbow.

Witnesses said Harris pushed the woman with the 3-year-old child in her arms just prior to officers entering the home.

Harris was booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center for domestic abuse barrery with child endangerment, resisting an officer, and battery of a police officer.
