A Ruston woman was arrested last Sunday after she allegedly attempted to intervene in a police investigation while she was intoxicated.
Mariah Williams, 32, was arrested July 20 on a number of charges after she approached Ruston police officers who were checking out a vehicle parked on the side of the roadway.
At about 4:20 a.m., two officers approached a vehicle stopped on the side of Second Avenue in southeast Ruston. They found a man on the side of the road and asked if he needed assistance. While talking to the man, Williams came up as a passenger in another vehicle and got out saying the man was her cousin and that everything was okay.
Williams told the officers to let the man go. She was directed not to approach the officers. She kept approaching and was told several times to stay back. Officers told Williams she appeared to be intoxicated and was acting in a hostile manner. She continued to walk towards an officer, swinging her arms and stating, “I can get hostile, (expletive). I can show you hostile.”
A brief struggle ensued as the officers took Williams into custody. She gave her name as Katie Williams and a date of birth of July 2, 1994. However, this information was found to be false.
An open bottle of alcohol was found on the passenger side of the vehicle, and Williams said it belonged to her. She was booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center for disturbing the peace by appearing intoxicated in public, resisting an officer, open container in a vehicle, and threatening a public official.
This information has been provided by a law enforcement agency as public information. Persons named or shown in photographs or video as suspects in a criminal investigation, or arrested and charged with a crime, have not been convicted of any criminal offense and are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
