GRAPEVINE, Texas — Ruston High’s varsity and junior varsity cheer squads brought home multiple first place and second place finishes this weekend at the Universal Cheerleaders Association Camp in Grapevine, Texas.
“We are really proud of how the girls worked all week,” Ruston High Cheer Coach Collin McDonald said. “We graduated out 15 seniors last year which is a big number for us so that always makes you nervous about how a team will come together the next year. Camp is a quick four-day sprint to learn material; stunts, dances, pyramids, cheers, and get them ready to compete on the final day. The girls really came together on days three and four and had amazing performances.
“We are excited to let these girls showcase some of what they learned at Mini Clinic and Bearcat Madness this Friday before getting ready for football season. We have a young group with 10 freshmen and a few transfers but they are going to be a great group to watch this year and will bring energy to every Ruston High event!”
Ruston’s varsity squad took first place in three categories: Camp Routine, Cheer, and Spirit Routine.
Junior varsity took first place in two categories: Camp Routine and Spirit Routine, while placing second in Cheer.
Individually, eight Lady Bearcats earned All-America honors: Kate Wood, Keatyn Brashear, Maggie Rogers, Hannah Daulton, Averie, Moon, Carlee Williams, Jilly Turpin and Camille Maier.
Four Lady Bearcats were also named Pin it Forward recipients: Daulton, Landry Tyler, Farrah Futch and Lawren Williams.
