Ruston Police arrested a local man earlier this week after he attempted to run from an officer who was interacting with him on a traffic stop.
Jeryl Minnifield, 47, of Ruston, was a passenger in a vehicle stopped on South Vienna Street about 11 a.m. on August 17.
When the officer told Minnifield he was going to be patted down for weapons, he attempted to walk away. He was stopped and again told he would be patted down. But instead, Minnifield attempted to flee on foot.
After a brief foot pursuit, Minnifield taken into custody. He then said he had a gun in his pocket.
A .22 caliber revolver wrapped in a plastic bag was found in Minnifield’s pocket. The serial number on the revolver had been filed down to make the number unreachable.
A records check showed Minnifield was wanted on a warrant for failure to appear in Third District Court.
Minnifield was booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center for possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number, resisting an officer, and the District Court warrant.
