Police arrest man on campus with gun

A man carrying a 9mm pistol on the Grambling State University campus was arrested early Tuesday morning after he ran from officers who stopped him.

Shaun’terrius T. Conner, 19, of Clayton, La., was charged with carrying a firearm on school property about 1 a.m. Sept. 30.

A GSU officer on patrol saw four men walking near dormitories in the early morning hours. The men stated they were students and three provided student IDs.

According to the officer’s report, Conner said he did not have an ID. When the officer asked if he could search the backpack he was wearing, Conner denied the backpack was his and fled on foot.

As the officer chased him, Conner threw the backpack over a fence to discard it. Conner was caught and arrested.

A search of the backpack discovered a Glock 17 9mm pistol.

Conner was booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center.
