A trooper with the Louisiana State Police arrested a Dubach man Tuesday after he ran another vehicle off the road on Louisiana Highway 151.
Anthony L. Cotton, 23, was arrested for DWI and other charges following an investigation.
The trooper responded to the scene on La. 151 near Mays Crossing Road at about 8:00 a.m. The driver of the vehicle that had left the roadway said that at about 5:30 AM, a white Ford Mustang had crossed the center line into his lane. The man said to avoid a head-on collision, he steered to the left, causing him to leave the roadway. The man said the Mustang then left the scene.

At about 8:50 a.m. deputies from the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office located a white Mustang parked at the trash dumpsters on La. 151 near Davidson Road about seven miles from the crash site. Cotton was the lone occupant of the vehicle and was slumped over at the wheel. Deputies had to bang hard on the window to wake him.
Once Cotton was awakened, deputies smelled a strong odor of alcoholic beverages on his breath. He was unsteady on his feet and his speech was slurred.
The deputies returned Cotton to the crash scene where he told the trooper he did not recall the crash. Field sobriety tests were administered and Cotton performed poorly, according to the trooper’s report.
Cotton was arrested and taken to the Lincoln Parish Detention Center where a breath test showed his blood alcohol content to be .084g%.
Cotton was booked for first offense DWI, hit and run driving, driving left of center, and illegal window tint.
