Two charged after Grambling domestic call

A man and a woman were arrested in Grambling last week after a caller reported seeing neighbors engaged in a verbal altercation that escalated into a physical confrontation.

Patrick Wayne Marshall, 23, of Grambling, and Ja’Viniti K. Anderson, 21, of Jonesboro, were arrested Jan. 31 on domestic violence-related charges after an investigation by Grambling Police.

GPD officers noted in a report that Marshall said he and his girlfriend had a verbal altercation that turned physical after she broke his apartment window and entered the premises. He said Anderson left his apartment around 4:30 a.m. after he told her she “was his downfall.” Marshall allegedly called over another woman once Anderson left, fell asleep and was awakened by his roommate who told him Anderson was outside, breaking the apartment windows.

Marshall said he went outside to confront Anderson, who then became physical with him and that she said she “felt played” after seeing the other woman at the apartment door.

Marshall said after Anderson went inside his apartment and attempted to leave with his phone, she began to grab him by the neck and attempted to fight him. Marshall said he used a pole to strike Anderson in the leg in self-defense. He also said he went to Anderson’s truck and picked up a block of ice and threw it at the windshield, but was unsure if it caused any damage.

Officers saw that Marshall had a large bright red scratch on his neck and the neck of his shirt was visibly stretched.

Anderson allegedly told officers she had been at Marshall’s apartment around 4 a.m. when they got into a verbal altercation. She stated she left the apartment and returned about 5 a.m. When she returned, she and an unknown woman arrived at the door, causing her to “crash out.”

Anderson admitted going into Marshall’s apartment and breaking a window by hitting it. She said she entered the apartment through an unlocked door and attempted to leave with Marshall’s phone. She said Marshall then became violent, striking her with a curtain rod which broke upon impact. She claimed Marshall hit her on the leg and on her hand with a curtain rod, causing her to lose sensation in her hand.

Both parties were arrested and taken to the Grambling Police Department for questioning. Anderson was later taken to the Northern Louisiana Medical Center for medical treatment. Both were later booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center.

Anderson was charged with battery of a dating partner, home invasion, and simple criminal damage the property. Marshall was booked for aggravated battery of a dating partner and simple criminal damage to property.
