Man arrested following traffic stop and search

A man was arrested June 10 after a traffic stop and subsequent vehicle search, according to a Grambling Police Department affidavit.

Rico Devon Qualls, 36, of Grambling, was arrested at approximately 9:20 p.m. at 197 Carver Street.

According to the affidavit, an officer observed a Nissan Murano traveling southbound on R.W.E. Jones Drive with an inoperable headlight. When the officer attempted to stop the Nissan, Qualls refused to stop until he reached his residence. Qualls then attempted to enter the residence before complying with a verbal command from the officer.

The officer determined Qualls was wanted on Grambling City Police Department arrest warrants for resisting an officer and possession of marijuana. A check of the vehicle’s insurance and registration showed both had expired.

The officer’s affidavit noted the vehicle was towed because of the expired registration and lack of insurance. During an inventory conducted before towing, officers located three plastic baggies containing a green leafy substance suspected to be marijuana in the armrest.

Qualls was taken to the Lincoln Parish Detention Center and booked for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, driving under suspension, no insurance, no registration, no headlight, and the warrants for resisting an officer and possession of marijuana.
