RUSTON, LA – Lincoln Parish School Board member Gregg Phillips has announced his candidacy for re-election this fall. He represents District 8 and is seeking his second term on the School Board. Phillips has been a local State Farm insurance agent for more than 26 years, and currently serves as School Board president.
“I have had the honor and privilege of serving on this board for the past 3.5 years, and I would be honored to continue serving the students and employees of Lincoln Parish schools for the next four years,” he said. “I fully believe that, while we are blessed with an incredible school system in this Parish, we are not satisfied with just a top 10 rating. We want to be the number one district in our state, and that is the goal of the School Board, our new Superintendent and his team. I believe that with the strong emphasis on education we have in our district, we will get there.”
Phillips said his gratitude for the education that his four sons received in Ruston schools is what led him to run and serve on the School Board, and he looks forward to the continued growth that is still to come.
“My commitment to public education is deeply personal. Andrea and I are proud parents of four sons (Josh, Sam, Jacob and Caleb), all of whom attended Lincoln Parish public schools,” he said. “Our family has experienced firsthand the dedication of our teachers, administrators, coaches, and support staff, and we know the lasting impact a strong public education can have on a child’s future. That perspective has shaped every decision I have made as a School Board member.”
Phillips’ deep commitment to community service goes beyond schools, and he has served as President of the Ruston Rotary Club, Chairman of the Ruston/Lincoln Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and as Chairman of the Board of Deacons at First Baptist Church. He currently is a Trustee with the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.
“I was elected and I live in School District 8, but I believe that I work for every school in our Parish. I fully support the Choudrant, Dubach, Ruston, and Simsboro schools. We want every student in this Parish to have access to the best education that we can offer, and we want to make sure that we employ the best educators as well,” Phillips said. “I am asking the voters of District 8 for their continued support and to vote for me in November so that I can continue serving the students and employees of the Lincoln Parish School system.”
