Dale Oden. Interment will follow in Kilpatrick’s Memorial Gardens under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Homes in Ruston, LA. A Visitation for family and friends will precede the service at 2:00 PM in the chapel. Curtis was born October 20, 1937, and passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 16, 2026.
Born and raised on a farm in Hico, LA, Curtis was the only boy among five siblings. Farm life instilled in him a legendary work ethic, learning to drive tractors and tending to livestock long before he had a driver’s license. After graduating from Hico High School in 1956, he attended Louisiana Tech University on an athletic scholarship, playing both basketball and baseball. Curtis graduated in 1960 and dedicated 37 years to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, retiring as the District Director for the Northwest Louisiana Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service, where colleagues became lifelong friends.
Curtis lived a life rooted in God, family, and country. Known for his joyful demeanor, authentic spirit, and constant smile, he treated everyone with dignity and respect. He put his faith into action quietly, serving for years as a greeter at Temple Baptist Church, exercising with friends at the Tech track, and helping neighbors by mowing lawns, cooking his famous chicken and dumplings for the sick, or cutting down trees—reluctantly retiring his chainsaw at age 83. An avid gardener, his bountiful vegetable crops and famous tomatoes were joyfully shared across the community.
His greatest earthly joy was his family, especially his grandchildren who knew “Pop’s house” was the ultimate place to be—where BB guns were gifted despite their mothers’ dismay.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Dollie Britt Tubbs; sisters, Billie Jean Jenkins, Claire Caver, and Sandra Tubbs; and parents-in-law, Arthur and Rosie Hayden.
Curtis is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Jaquatta, whom he loved from the moment they met; daughters, Pam Terrebonne (Mark), Julie Popkin (Brian), and Paula Garrett (Jay); grandchildren, Matthew Terrebonne (Carolina), Laura Harlow (Keller), Anna Fragen (Connor), Curt Popkin, Kate Sipos (Robbie), Patrick Garrett, Libby Garrett, and bonus granddaughter Anslee-Kate Alexander; great-grandsons, Hayden Elliott Harlow and James Curtis Fragen and sister, Patsy Tubbs Franklin.
The family would like to thank Val Bridges for her kind and loving help as Curtis’ caregiver.
Memorials may be made in his memory to Temple Baptist Church Building Fund or to a charity of your choice.
