A traffic stop for an alleged turn-signal violation early Sunday led to a DWI arrest.
Maddox Curtis Williams, 20, of Saline, was arrested on July 12 in Ruston by a Louisiana State Police trooper.
The trooper reported seeing a silver Chevrolet Silverado fail to use its right turn signal on the South Service Road at La. Highway 544 (Cooktown Road) at about 2:303 a.m.
The driver pulled into a private parking lot after the trooper initiated a traffic stop. The trooper detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Williams’ breath and person. Williams allegedly spoke slowly with slurred speech and had an unsteady walk and red, watery, glossy eyes.
Williams reportedly admitted consuming alcohol before driving. The trooper administered standardized field sobriety tests and reported Williams performed poorly.
Williams was arrested and transported to the Lincoln Parish Detention Center for chemical testing. Before transport, the trooper reported seeing an open Malibu liqueur container in the front passenger seat.
At the detention center, Williams was advised of his rights relating to chemical testing and signed the form after a 15-minute observation period. He provided a breath sample on an Intoxilyzer 9000 that registered a blood alcohol concentration of .117%.
A criminal history check reportedly showed Williams’ driver’s license was under suspension and that he had an active Union Parish warrant for insecure load.
Williams was booked on charges of first offense DWI, failure to use a turn signal, driving under suspension, open container, and the Union Parish warrant.
