Three school board seats to be contested in the fall

Only three of the 12 seats on the Lincoln Parish School Board will be decided by voters this fall after qualifying for the Nov. 3 election concluded Friday.

Nine candidates will run without opposition, while contested races unfolded during qualifying in Districts 2, 11 and 12.

District 11 boasts the largest field of candidates, where three Democrats — Richard Ray Anderson, Evelyn “Lewis” Cooper and Marsha Davis — qualified for the seat.

Anderson and Cooper both qualified Wednesday, while Davis joined the race Friday on the final day of qualifying.

District 2 will feature a race between Democrats Greta Carter and Sandra Woods, who both qualified Wednesday.

The third contested School Board race will come in District 12, where Democrats Richard Bates and Aimee L. Blackham will face each other. Bates qualified Wednesday, while Blackham entered the race Thursday.

The remaining nine School Board races drew only one candidate during the three-day qualifying period.

Dr. Danielle Williams (District 1), Clark Canterbury (District 3), Donna Doss (District 4), Hunter Antley (District 5) Wynn Rogers (District 6), Hunter Smith (District 7), Gregg Phillips (District 8), Anthony Drayton (District 9), and Juan Hooper (District 10) will represent their respective areas, running unopposed.

Williams, Canterbury, Doss, Smith, Phillips, and Hooper are already currently serving on the school board while Antley, Rogers, and Drayton will be newcomers. Hooper recently replaced Otis Anders to serve the rest of this current term, following Anders passing.

The three contested races will be decided as part of the Nov. 3 election.
