A Choudrant driver was arrested Aug. 29 on drunken driving and hit-and-run counts after deputies responding to a reckless driving complaint on Interstate 20 stopped his car at Exit 86, and he later registered a blood-alcohol content of 0.209%.
Tyler M. Yruegas, 17, was booked into the Lincoln Parish Detention Center on counts of hit-and-run driving and operating a vehicle while impaired, according to an affidavit.
Deputies were called at about 7:32 a.m. to the area of Interstate 20 and Highway 33 at Exit 86 in reference to a reckless driving complaint and a possible hit and run. When a deputy arrived, a gray Toyota Camry was stopped at the red light, followed by a white Chevrolet Tahoe driven by the man who reported the crash.
The Tahoe’s driver said the Camry rammed the back of his vehicle, then sped past him on I-20 while its driver raised his middle finger out the window. There was damage to the front of the Camry but none to the Tahoe.
A faint odor of an alcoholic beverage came from Yruegas, and his account of what happened did not match the complaint. He said several times that he did not think he had hit anyone. He told deputies he had not been drinking, then said he had one drink around 5 a.m. before saying he had not, and said he could not remember whether he struck the Tahoe.
Yruegas performed poorly on standardized field sobriety tests. He was advised of his Miranda rights and taken to the detention center.
