Rhonda Gwen Johnson Haymon was born on February 2, 1958, in Deridder, Louisiana. She passed away Monday, September 14, 2026, peacefully at home, surrounded by the family she loved so dearly.
Rhonda’s life was marked by a deep love for the Lord, an extraordinary devotion to her family, a heart of caring for others, and a joy that was evident in her laughter. She loved Jesus and wanted others to know Him. Her faith was woven into the way she lived, loved, served, and cared for others. Her relationship with the Lord was central to her life. She loved Him and desired for those around her to know the hope of salvation found in Christ alone. Her favorite verse beautifully reflects the way she lived: “For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.” Philippians 1:21
Rhonda graduated from Pitkin High School in 1976 as valedictorian of her class. She continued her education at Northwestern State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in accounting, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
Her nursing career allowed her to care for people during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. Over the years, Rhonda practiced nursing in a variety of fields: surgery, recovery, home health, and intensive care. She had a special passion for hospice nursing. Her compassion and tender heart were especially evident as she cared for patients and their families during difficult seasons.
For Rhonda, few things compared to the joy of family and being together with them. She loved cooking for them, laughing with them, and caring for them. She and her husband, Jon, shared 48 years of marriage, and together they built a beautiful family. Rhonda was a loving mother and grandmother to: Kim and her partner Vickie; Jessica and her husband Rob, and their children: Lewis, Bay, Sam, Art, Henry, Sully, and Betty; Jacob and his wife Millie, and their children: Birdie, Pippa, Hattie, Boaz, Amos, Asa, Etta, Jethro, and Florence; and Trent and his wife Chelsea, and their children: Theo, Vetiver, Grizlyn, and Thandi. She loved her siblings, Vicki, Jerry, Debbie, and Sheila; and was blessed with many dear friends who loved her deeply. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Ruston.
Rhonda leaves behind far more than memories. She leaves a legacy of faith, family, service, compassion, laughter, and love. The countless lives she touched through her family, friendships, church, and years of nursing will continue to bear the imprint of the life she lived.
Rhonda was preceded in death by her parents, J.L. Johnson and Delores Smith; siblings, Jerry Johnson and Vickie Griffin; and granddaughter, Elizabeth (Bay) Moore.
Those who love her grieve deeply, but they do so with the hope Rhonda herself believed and shared – that for those who belong to Christ, death is not the end.
Her faith has become sight!
Serving as pallbearers will be Sean Littleton, Lewis Moore, Sam Moore, Art Moore, Henry Moore, and Boaz Haymon. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Friday, September 18, 2026 at Calvary Baptist Church in Ruston, LA.
