Ruston residents are invited to come together Saturday morning to celebrate survivors, honor those who have battled breast cancer and show support for individuals and families affected by the disease.
The second annual Breast Cancer Awareness Celebration Parade is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 17, beginning at 9 a.m., with Ruston Alderwoman Angela Shane Mayfield encouraging the community to participate in the event.
The parade is designed to bring awareness to breast cancer while celebrating the strength, courage and resilience of those whose lives have been impacted by the disease.
Participants will gather at the Lincoln Parish Police Jury Complex, located at 307 Homer St. in Ruston, with lineup beginning at 8:15 a.m. The parade is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
Now in its second year, the event provides an opportunity for community members to unite behind a cause that affects families throughout Lincoln Parish and beyond.
October is recognized nationally as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an annual campaign dedicated to increasing awareness of the disease, encouraging early detection and recognizing the importance of continued research, treatment and support for patients and survivors.
Breast cancer remains one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers among women in the United States, making awareness and access to screening and treatment important components of the fight against the disease.
Organizers hope the parade will serve not only as a celebration but also as a reminder that individuals facing breast cancer do not have to face their journeys alone.
The event’s theme emphasizes four messages of unity: Together, we support. Together, we hope. Together, we fight. And together, we survive.
Those messages reflect the importance of supporting individuals currently undergoing treatment, celebrating survivors and remembering those who have lost their lives to breast cancer.
The parade also provides an opportunity for family members, friends, caregivers and others throughout the community to demonstrate their support for individuals affected by the disease.
While Breast Cancer Awareness Month places a national spotlight on the disease each October, local events such as Saturday’s parade offer communities an opportunity to demonstrate that support close to home.
Community members are encouraged to participate in the parade or come out Saturday morning to show their support for breast cancer survivors, patients and their families.
