A Grambling woman was arrested Oct. 9 on theft and drug paraphernalia charges after a deputy identified her from doorbell camera video of a package theft, according to an arrest affidavit.
Betty Faye Maryland, 59, of Grambling, was taken into custody at 8:17 p.m. by the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office.
A deputy was dispatched at about 7:55 p.m. to a report of a theft and was shown doorbell camera video. The deputy then went to Maryland’s residence and saw her walking out of the house. Maryland was read her rights and said she understood.
The deputy identified Maryland from the video, placed her under arrest and told her why. Maryland said the packages contained clothing and were in a bag inside the residence.
After Maryland was handcuffed, the deputy patted down her front pockets and felt a hard object in her left pocket. Maryland said it was a “crack pipe.” The deputy removed it and asked where the crack was, and Maryland said she had already smoked it.
The deputy recovered the stolen items from where Maryland said they would be and returned them. Some items were still missing. The items were valued at a combined $184.03.
Maryland was taken to the Lincoln Parish Detention Center and booked on misdemeanor theft of less than $750 and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was released on her own recognizance on both charges.
