Shreveport man arrested on stolen vehicle charge

A vehicle reported stolen in West Monroe was found parked in a Ruston driveway Saturday, leading to the arrest of a Shreveport man.

Dexter Birdon, 61, of Shreveport, was arrested Oct. 10 by the Ruston Police Department on a felony charge of illegal possession of stolen things.

Around noon, Ruston police received a be-on-the-lookout alert from the West Monroe Police Department for a black 2019 Nissan Rogue SUV and a person associated with it, according to an arrest affidavit. The alert named Birdon as a suspect in the theft of the vehicle.

An officer on patrol found the vehicle parked in the driveway of a Ruston residence and called for backup. As officers approached, Birdon exited the residence and made contact with them. After confirming the information with West Monroe police, the officer arrested Birdon at 12:33 p.m. and took him to the Lincoln Parish Detention Center, where he was booked on the charge.
