A Ruston man was arrested Thursday after a late-night argument with his roommate over talking in his sleep turned physical.
Raymond Rogers Williams, 48, of Ruston, was arrested Oct. 15 by the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Department.
According to an arrest affidavit, a deputy was dispatched at about 8:39 p.m. to a Ruston residence for a disturbance. The roommate told the deputy he shares a room with Williams and has a habit of talking in his sleep that can get loud. He said Williams woke him that night and confronted him about it. The argument escalated quickly, the man said, and when he sat up in bed, Williams grabbed him by the throat and shoved him backward, causing his head to hit the wall. The man said he never tried to defend himself and only called police. He did not suffer serious injuries and did not need medical attention.
Williams was read his Miranda rights, which he said he understood. Williams said the other man was being loud in bed and that he was trying to calm him down. He said the man got up yelling and got in his face. Williams admitted pushing the man but denied grabbing his throat. Asked whether he hit the man, Williams paused, said “yes,” and told the deputy he struck him in the neck. Williams had no marks or injuries.
The deputy determined that Williams appeared to be the aggressor. Williams was arrested on one count of simple battery of the infirm. The charge applies because the man is older than 60.
