Downtown Ruston kicks off the holiday season with annual Holiday Open House tonight

By Alexis Newman

With Christmas Day only 50 days away, it may be time to start buying gifts to put under the tree, and what better way to start the shopping season than with downtown Ruston’s Holiday Open House.

The Holiday Open House will be open from 5-8 p.m. tonight. There will be 27 business in the downtown area participating, offering extended hours, holiday specials and refreshments.

The participating businesses are Amberly S Salon, Boutique Barr, Champs Sports Bar and Restaurant, Chartreuse Pear, Chessys Boutique, The Children’s Shoppe, The Collective, Cotton Top Print Shop, Creative Exchange, David Hedgepeth Interiors, Dussé Boutique, Embellishments, FanBase, The Fashion of Ruston, Fine Line Supply Co., Garden Baby, Goldie Boutique, Julie Mays Interiors, KickzThrone, Martha’s Boutique, Ponchatoulas, Railway Coffee, Roma Italian Bistro, Sundown Tavern, Uptown Downtown, Utility Brewing Company and Walker and Co.

This kickoff event benefits both shoppers and local businesses. It sets the tone for the holidays, but it gives back to the community by supporting the local economy.

“We love that we have so much to offer in downtown Ruston as far as shopping, and this is a way to remind people that shopping local is so important because we have so many small businesses and people depend on people to shop here,” Stegall said.

Although it is an annual tradition to start the holiday shopping season with the Holiday Open House, the event is especially important this year with the current unreliability of shipping supply lines. Stegall said that the local stores in downtown will both be fully stocked and happy to see the customers.

“The thing especially about this year is that shipping is going to be crazy, and so we’re trying to remind everyone that if you can physically touch it, feel it and buy it, then it’s guaranteed to be under your tree,” Stegall said.

As the first of multiple upcoming holiday events, the Holiday Open House is the perfect way to get into the spirit of the season while also checking things off of the Christmas to do list.
