Voltz named LA Tech soccer coach

Louisiana Tech Vice President and Director of Athletics Eric Wood announced Wednesday that Steve Voltz will be head coach of the Louisiana Tech soccer program, removing the interim designation.

After one season as an assistant coach at LA Tech, Voltz was named interim head coach of the Lady Techsters for the 2021 season.

“When evaluating the job that Steve did this year under some challenging circumstances, we were pleased with the team culture and the fact that the ladies never quit,” said Wood.  “He understands our expectations for chasing conference championships and we feel this young team will continue to get better and better under his leadership.  We are excited about the future of our soccer program.”

Taking over a team with 18 newcomers, including 15 freshmen, positive results on the pitch really started to show late in the season as the team finished strong with a 2-1-2 record over its last five C-USA matches.

During that stretch, the Lady Techsters tied West Division champion Southern Miss and had their most complete game in the season finale with a 4-0 road victory at FIU.

“I am humbled and thrilled to be given the opportunity to continue the process we started this season,” said Voltz.  “To be associated with such a wonderful group of student-athletes is amazing.  They have bought in from the start and I look forward to working with them in the future.

“My gratitude is also extended to Dr. Guice and Dr. Wood for trusting our staff to build on what we set in motion this past August.  We will continue to compete and bring the joy.”
