Union Parish Sheriff Dusty Gates has announced charges will be brought against a man alleged to have sexually abused an 8-year-old child.
Sheriff Gates said UPSO investigators were contacted by investigators in Wisconsin regarding a sex crime complaint involving Daryl Ray Stagg, age 60, of Pollock, LA. During the investigation, it was learned Stagg allegedly committed sexual assault against the 8-year-old victim at multiple locations spanning several years, including on one occasion at a residence near Bernice in Union Parish.
A Third District Court judge issued a warrant for Stagg’s arrest. Stagg is currently in custody in Grant Parish where he is facing similar charges. When booked in Union Parish, he will be charged with first degree rape, aggravated crimes against nature, indecent behavior with a juvenile, and oral sexual battery.
Bail on the Union Parish charges was set at $950,000.
The matter is being investigated jointly by the Union, Grant, and Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Offices and the Kenosha County, Wisconsin Sheriff’s Office. Additional charges are expected as the investigation progresses.
