Franklin attributes smoky haze to extinguished Beauregard Parish fires

Extinguished smoke can be seen in the distance in Lincoln Parish

Lincoln Parish Director of Homeland Security and Preparedness Kip Franklin said this morning that the smoky haze residents of our area are experiencing is coming from fires that were extinguished in Beauregard Parish in the last few days.

With the extreme dry weather that has impacted the state over the past month, wildfires have popped up in various areas of the state. Franklin confirmed that a small fire had started in Simsboro yesterday but said that it was extinguished and wouldn’t have caused the smoky haze that is hovering in Lincoln Parish.

“There is simply no way that fire generated this haze,” said Franklin.

Franklin said he had called and talked to his counterparts in both Webster and Bossier Parishes and that those areas are experiencing the same conditions this morning.

“I imagine anyone from south Arkansas to down to Beauregard is experiencing the same types of conditions,” said Franklin.

Residents are reminded that the entire state is under a burn ban.

“I really want to stress to people that conditions are extremely dangerous right now,” said Franklin.
