Lincoln Parish deputies arrested a Ruston man last week after responding to a silent hold up alarm at a local convenience store.
D’terrious Johnnal Lewis, 26, was arrested August 27 for drug possession, resisting an officer, and disturbing the peace at the USA Travel Plaza at La. Highway 33 and Goodgoin Road.
As deputies were responding to the alarm, a witness called and said a man exhibiting erratic behavior went behind the cashier’s counter.
When deputies arrived, they found Lewis pacing around the back aisles of the store. Lewis said people were trying to kill him and he was attempting to buy gas. Deputies found Lewis was speaking in a rapid nonstop manner and could not stay on topic or answer simple questions.
Based on the deputies experience and training, they believed Lewis was under the influence of narcotics.
The store employee said Lewis had been showing the same behavior for about an hour and a half and she wanted him banned from the store. Deputies assisted Lewis in purchasing his gas and were escorting him to his U-Haul box truck when a container suspected marijuana was seen inside.
Lewis was placed under arrest and a search located approximately 32 grams of marijuana, a bottle of Adderall (amphetamine and dextroamphetamine) prescribed to another person and an aspirin bottle containing Adderall.
When deputies placed Lewis in a patrol vehicle, he began kicking the rear door. To prevent damage to the vehicle, deputies opened the door to advise him to stop. He became irate, placng his legs outside the vehicle and attempting to get out. Despite numerous commands to put his legs inside the vehicle, he refused, kicking at the protective cage and at the deputies.
A TASER was deployed with no effect. Lewis forced his way out of the vehicle but was restrained. When additional deputies arrived, he was returned to the patrol vehicle and taken to the Lincoln Parish Detention Center where he was booked for disturbing the peace, possession of marijuana, possession of amphetamine and dextroamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and resisting an officer.
