Traffic stop over loud exhaust leads to drug possession arrest

A Jonesboro man was arrested after a traffic stop for a modified exhaust system led agents to find narcotics in his vehicle, according to an arrest affidavit.

Roy Brosset Jr., 32, of Jonesboro, was arrested July 22 by agents with the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office narcotics unit (LPNET).

According to the affidavit, LPNET agents observed a gray Chevrolet pickup truck traveling south on Highway 167. Agents heard the truck before noticing it had a modified exhaust system and conducted a traffic stop.

Agents made contact with the driver, identified as Brosset, and asked if there was anything illegal inside the vehicle. Brosset said there was marijuana and showed agents a burnt marijuana cigar.

Brosset and a passenger were then asked to step out of the vehicle while agents conducted a probable cause search. When asked again whether there were additional narcotics inside, Brosset said it was possible his relative’s “Lortabs” were somewhere in the vehicle, though he was unsure where, according to the affidavit.

Agents located a cigar wrapper in a cup holder in the back seat containing three pills identified as hydrocodone and marked “M367,” the affidavit states.

Brosset was placed in handcuffs, advised of his charges and transported to LPNET before being booked into the Lincoln Parish Detention Center. The vehicle was released to the passenger.

Brosset was booked on charges of modifying a vehicle’s exhaust system and possession of a Schedule II controlled dangerous substance (hydrocodone), according to the affidavit.
